The Band Toto Asia
Toto was expanding its production facilities abroad, and doing business in France and Germany, Indonesia, Korea and Taiwan, Thailand and the People's Republic of China. North America was seen as an opportunity to grow for toilets and bidet seats, in contrast to its "base" markets in Japan and China.
Dhaniram Toto documented Toto words to ensure that the future generation could understand them. Many words were replaced with foreign words. For example dui, which is Bengali for verandah was being used.
Origins
Toto's early history, which began in 1917, mirrored Japan's rapid economic growth. In the first half, Toto produced goods to meet the demand for modern, contemporary urban housing. It used the first tunnel kiln in the country that could produce ceramics continuously. It also pioneered the use automation to control production, which allows for more efficiency and consistency.
In the late 1980s, the company began expanding overseas in order to take advantage of sales and new markets. The company founded the Cera Trading Company to import and sell other products from other manufacturers in order to expand its line of sanitary earthenwares as well as plumbing fittings. This strategy helped increase sales and expanded the firm's global market share.
In the 1990s, Toto began to focus on research and development of water-related appliances. It also upgraded its distribution system to better meet the needs of its customers and boost profits. The company employed the same just-in-time approach to its supply chain management as well as sales program. This led to a higher level of customer satisfaction.
Toto has been able to continue to innovate with regard to toilet technology. Its latest toilet, for example, has an extremely powerful tornado flush that is more environmentally friendly than conventional toilets. The company makes use of recycled water for its manufacturing process and has a green buying policy. Toto also produces bathtubs, faucets, and hand dryers with higher energy efficiency than standard models.
The first museum of the company opened in the year 2015 It has exhibits about Toto's iconic products and their development as well as its group companies (all related to ceramics) and the historical background of plumbing and products such as bath units and, in a separate gallery, Toto products sold around the world. The museum also has bathrooms with a washbasin and other toilet innovations.
Before beginning the formation of Toto members of the group performed sessions for a variety of musicians. Boz Scaggs' album Silk Degrees featured keyboardist David Paich as well as guitarists Mike Porcaro & Steve Lukather and drummers Jeff Porcaro & Steve Lukather. They also performed on albums by Steely Don, Seals and Crofts and Sonny and Cher.
Discography
With a name as evocative as Asia one would think that the group would be prog kings and queens however, it's actually a fairly straightforward rock band. The group was formed as a four-piece and released two albums that were self-titled in 1979 and 1980's Armed to the Teeth. But even though the band have a wide range of musical backgrounds, their biggest success came in 1982 with Toto IV.
The album was a major blockbuster, but it was not without its share of issues. Record companies put the band on position with the order "give us an album that is a success or we'll drop you" and the pressure was on them to give it. Luckily for Toto they did, with the assistance of the smash single "Africa."
Toto's musical mastery is due to their prior experience since the members had been session musicians for artists such as Boz Scaggs, Steely Dan, and Seals and Crofts before starting the group. Their sonic signature has become the norm for '80s pop, influencing many contemporary artists.
The album begins hard with songs like Running Out of Time or Unknown Soldier that show the band's ability to write great AOR tunes that slowly creep into your head. The album also has some slower, more jazzy tracks such as The Little Things and Chinatown. The album closes with Great Expectations, a song which combines folk and distortion AOR and sounds totally wrong, but is incredibly effective.
After Toto IV, the band's fortunes turned to the downside. David Hungate left the band to focus on his solo career. The band was dominated by drummers. In 1984, Bobby Kimball left the group due to drug charges. The band continued to play with Michael Porcaro, Steve Lukather and Michael Porcaro.
Despite the turmoil, Toto forged ahead and released Isolation, which was not as successful as IV. The group managed to release an album that topped the charts, Kingdom of Desire, in 1992. This album marked the end of Toto's lineup and the debut of Simon Phillips, a new singer.

Turn Back, the band's third studio album, was an attempt to return to the traditional sextet style, and a more consistent, stronger album with a sharper edge. The more experimental sound of Turn Back reflected the growth of the band. Bobby Kimball's growing virtuosity was reflected by the vocal delivery of Joseph Williams, who had grown more confident and mature. David Paich's keyboard playing was also more sophisticated, sharper, and less derivative on earlier efforts.
After touring to promote the album, the group recorded a live concert in Amsterdam which was released as a two-CD set titled Falling In Between Live on Eagle Records. The group released their new studio album just a few months after, and went on a tour around the world to help promote it. During this period keyboardist Greg Phillinganes replaced Paich and bassist David Hungate quit the group to spend time with his family.
In 1998, Paich and Lukather started exploring old demos and tapes in search of a new album featuring songs that were never recorded before. It was completed in the form of a double-album called Then and Now in 2001. It was the first album in the history of the band that did not include a single song with the word "A" in its title. It also included one previously not released track, "Kari-Anne".
By 2003, Toto had begun to decline in popularity. The fourth album, Old Is New, was a commercial failure and the vocalist Williams suffered from a bad laryngitis condition which hampered his singing. Hungate also returned to Nashville and Leland Sklar's drumming duties were replaced by Shem Von Schroeck.
Downes and the other members of Asia--Wetton, Palmer, and Howe--convened an event in England in the beginning of 2006 to discuss the possibility of officially reforming the band. This lineup, minus Howe who was occupied with Yes at the time, became Toto XIV. They toured extensively.
In 2010, the band reunited for another reunion tour with a slightly different line-up, including guitarists Mike Porcaro and Steve Lukather, drummer John Pierce, bassist Shannon Forrest, and multi-instrumentalists Warren Ham and Dominique Taplin. The 스포츠토토 band featured a special appearance by singer Michael McDonald and a backing vocalist named Mabvuto Carver.
